Boys by Girls - 'Christopher Raley for Issue 12'

The journey: from boy to man.

We romanticise the past. Our world is ever-evolving, and we, as humans, adapt to work with these changes. The life experiences of a 17 year old growing up today will drastically differ to those of the 17 year old boys growing up in the 1980’s. In our Spring Summer 2017 issue, we had the pleasure of working with poet Christopher Raley, his delicate words now forever residing on our pages, exploring the unpredictability of the journey to manhood.

Three unique poems, written exclusively for this issue, take you on a journey; through the eyes of his 17-year-old son, his 17-year-old self, and his own eyes now being safely into his adulthood. The poetry draw you in, as you're invited to experience the three unique perspective of growing up.  From youthful innocence, to the thoughts of a grown man. The experience of Christopher’s melancholic words is amplified and complemented by the works of visual artist Anna Bu Kliewer.

For the first time across our art pages within our print issue, the artwork and poetry is created to really compliment each other, and enhance your experience as you read the words and take in the beauty of the art pieces. With his unique and stunning way with words, this American poet is someone to take note of.
